Aka “Liquid Facelift”

As a result of diverse environmental and hereditary factors, people age at different rates and in different ways. Today, it’s well understood that facial aging is not caused by any one change — it’s the result of many different small changes that develop over time.  A liquid facelift or non-surgical facelift is designed to overcome many of these age-related changes to enhance and refreshen your appearance.

“Liquid facelift” is a popular marketing term used for a treatment that combines a wrinkle reducing injectable (BOTOX, XEOMIN), and dermal fillers to create a comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Most commonly, dermal fillers are strategically injected in order to selectively volumize, lift, and sculpt.  Here at Hawaii Facial Plastic Surgery, we call this treatment a non-surgical facelift because we sometimes incorporate an energy treatment such as laser resurfacing and skin tightening.   This combination of products and treatments, performed by Dr. Tan, can take years off of your appearance. However, it is important to note that for patients with a greater degree of skin laxity and/or volume loss, non-surgical treatments may not produce the significant and lasting results achieved with surgical procedures.

Benefits of Non-Surgical Facelift

For the right patient, non-surgical facelift offers a host of potential benefits:

    • It can make people look years younger almost immediately.
    • It’s a far less invasive way to gently lift tissue and smooth wrinkles than a traditional facelift, which is significantly more expensive and comes with up to two weeks of downtime.
    • It works by restoring lost volume, which a surgical facelift cannot do
    • Aside from minor bruising and swelling, there’s little to no downtime.

    Candidate for Non-Surgical Facelift

The best candidates for the liquid facelift still have good skin elasticity but want to address some combination of slight jowls, fine lines, wrinkles, volume loss in the cheeks, and crow’s-feet.

The procedure is usually done on people in their late 30s or 40s, often to delay the need for a surgical facelift or mini facelift.   If you have more severe jowls and sagging skin (particularly in the lower face and neck), with deep folds and wrinkles, you may want to consider plastic surgery.

Dr. Tan’s Approach to Non-Surgical Facelift

Dr. Tan is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon.  After medical school, her training and experience have been devoted exclusively to surgical and non-surgical procedures of the face and neck.  Dr. Tan use a more sophisticated approach than those typically used by providers at medspas and other non-facial plastic surgery offices.  The most recognizable difference is during the analysis of a patient’s facial features and aging patterns. This is often overlooked or done incorrectly, which commonly leads to less than satisfactory results or unusual outcomes where patients look like they “had something done.”

Her goal is true patient-aligned facial rejuvenation with natural results, which requires re-volumizing areas that many providers often overlook. These areas include the temples, the sides of the chin, in front of the ear, and along the jawline near the ear lobe. This often requires multiple syringes for true long-lasting, refreshed results.  Depending on the area(s) of concern, Dr. Tan will choose the best product available based on the patient’s concerns of the longevity of the results, time to final results, downtime, number of treatments needed, and cost.

Beyond the use of filler and Botox, laser resurfacing treatment and non-surgical skin tightening options can be added to the liquid facelift for a more enhanced non-surgical facelift result. Although. a non-surgical facelift using injectable treatments and other non-surgical options will not create results as signficant and long-lasting as those of a traditional surgical facelift, it is a wonderful option for many people who have specific concerns and who are looking to avoid surgery.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of a non-surgical facelift over a traditional facelift?

A non-surgical facelift doesn’t require anesthesia or a significant period of recuperation, making it an appealing choice for many people who don’t have the time to devote to resting at home. Although a non-surgical facelift isn’t a perfect equivalent to a traditional surgical facelift, it is an excellent option for people with mild to moderate facial aging who wish to correct multiple age-related concerns without surgery.

How long will my results last?

The longevity of your results is dependent on a few different factors, including the types of products used and where in the face they are administered. Neurotoxins such as BOTOX Cosmetic generally last between 3 and 6 months, while dermal fillers such as RHA hylauronic acid and Sculptra Aesthetics including  can last up to 2 years.

    The treatment experience
    • Your non-surgical facelift is administered at our Honolulu practice.
    • The procedure doesn’t typically require any anesthesia or oral pain relievers.
    • Most patients are able to get back to their regular activities immediately.
    • Minor side effects may be present at the injection sites but usually resolve themselves quickly.
    • Dermal fillers yield immediate results, while neurotoxins such as BOTOX Cosmetic typically require several days for results to fully develop.
    • Depending on the laser or energy-based devices used, there may be mild skin peeling and redness that can last up to 1 week.
    • It is recommended that you plan the treatent at least two weeks prior to any special event.
How many syringes of dermal filler do I need?

Single syringe treatments are appropriate for filling a particular line, wrinkle, or augmenting the lips. However, it is good to know that a typical syringe has only 1.0 cc of product, which amounts to only 1/5 of a teaspoon.  The number of syringes you will need for your non-surgical facelift will depend greatly on your age, your facial and bone structures, and amount of volume loss and sagging.  Although certain factors can cause younger women to look older, the general rule is that we use one syringe for each decade of age. So, a woman of 40 would use on average 4 syringes, 50 year old would require 5, and so on. The lasting affects and the minimalistic impact on the patient’s daily life is what draws so many people to Dermal Fillers. If you have been looking for a way to slow down the signs of aging, non-surgical facelift can help no matter what age you are.
