Frequently Asked Questions

What is the procedure like?

Chin implant operations are completed in approximately 1-2 hours under general anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Tan will make a small incision underneath the chin or in the mouth, depending on the type of projection desired. Cheek implant operations are completed in approximately 2-3 hours, also under general anesthesia. In this operation, Dr. Tan use a lower eyelid incision or gingivobuccal incision to place the silicone implant in position.

Apply cold/ ice pack for the first 48 hours after surgery. Do not lay flat. Try to stay sit up or head up 30 degree on your bed. If needed, expect to remove stitches 5-6 days after the surgery. Take regular shower and shampoo hair if instructed. Expect mild to moderate pain immediately after surgery. Take your prescribed pain killer/ Tylenol as directed. Finish your prescribed antibiotics are directed. Eat soft food for one week after surgery. Asymmetry, swelling, abnormal sensation or bruises may persist for 2-3 months after the surgery. What kind of implant is used?

Weight gain or loss will change the look or results of any surgery. You should maintain a healthy weight so your surgery outcome will have little interference. Keep in mind that as you age, there will be some volume loss in your face, and losing weight may attribute to a “gaunt”-looking facial appearance.
