BOTOX®, Dysport®, Xeomin® | Neuromodulators
Look Younger, Refreshed with Fewer Lines and Wrinkles
‘Tens of millions of people around the world have instantly improved their appearance by reducing facial lines and wrinkles with neuromodulators such as BOTOX®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®. Ever since the FDA approved BOTOX COSMETIC® in April 1992, these products have dominated anti-aging treatments.
When you have a choice of BOTOX® providers in Honolulu, does it matter which one you choose? Is it only about low prices, or are there other considerations? We understand patients have questions and are weighing many considerations, and that’s why scheduling an initial consultation is a wise first move.
We offer the best treatments for BOTOX Hawaii has available at our conveniently located Honolulu concierge clinic.
Neuromodulator injections in the hands of a board-certified facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Susan Tan at Hawaii Facial Plastic Surgery differ from some other providers. Her aesthetic understanding and medical knowledge give you peace of mind and can improve the results you see after treatment.
What Can BOTOX® Injections Improve?
- Frown lines
- Forehead lines
- Eyebrow lift
- Crow’s feet
- Gummy smile
- Dimpled chin
- Wrinkles around the mouth
- Neck lines
Skilled cosmetic practitioners may also use neuromodulators in other areas of the face and neck to produce similar results. One of the most important considerations is producing natural-looking results, which is another area where Dr. Tan’s expertise comes in. She is renowned for her aesthetic sensibilities.
Reduce Lines and Wrinkles and Look Like Yourself
If you’re considering neuromodulators and wondering if they will change facial expressions or alter your unique essence, they will not when properly used.
When performed by an experienced facial plastic surgeon such as Dr. Tan, the results look natural and elegant.
Injections are quick and relatively painless, and the results can last many months before another treatment session is needed.
Which Product is Best for Me?
At Hawaii Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer three neuromodulator products with similar benefits — BOTOX®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®. But there are subtle differences among them and Dr. Tan will recommend the one she feels is best for the outcome you want to achieve.
Some people respond better to one product than the others. For example, one patient may have a mild response to a product that works exceptionally well on him or her, and vice versa. The good news is that you have options, and allergic reactions and unpleasant side effects are infrequent for all three products.
The FDA has approved BOTOX® and other similar products for cosmetic use on adults between the ages of 18 and 65. It is considered a safe and effective treatment for cosmetic and medical purposes (more information about medical uses in the next section).
You’ll Like The Benefits of Neuromodulators
Your first visit will include an initial consultation with Dr. Tan to ask about your goals. She’ll then develop a personalized treatment plan based on your requests and her years of clinical experience. Patient education is a priority; you’ll have a thorough understanding before treatment begins.
For the right patients, BOTOX®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® offer many benefits:
- Quick treatment; no prep time before and no downtime afterward
- Have the procedure during your lunch break and return to work with no visible signs
- Preliminary improvement immediately after your procedure
- Full results become apparent in about two weeks
- Improvements last three to four months before a touch-up is needed
Although neuromodulators are a fast and convenient treatment that produces excellent results for many patients, they aren’t the right choice for everyone. Dr. Tan will discuss your concerns and goals to determine whether they are the best choice to meet your needs.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Dr. Tan has successfully used neuromodulations on patients of many ages and from different walks of life, but you are not a candidate if you have any of the following:
- Allergies to any of the product ingredients
- A diagnosed nerve or muscle disorder
- Are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- An active infection at the injection sites
- A history of difficulty with bleeding, swallowing, or breathing
- Recent surgery or plan to have surgery soon
Before treatment, we are careful to ask for your medical history to ensure your safety. The important takeaway is that these products have been used on millions of patients with few complications.
Why See Dr. Tan for BOTOX® Injections?
Neuromodulator injections are common cosmetic treatments. But the procedure’s prevalence should not give you the impression that anyone should administer the injections – or that you will receive the same level of care and consistency, regardless of where you go.
Refresh your appearance without looking like you just had a cosmetic treatment.
Experiences Honolulu facial plastic surgeons like Dr. Tan have extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and an artistic eye. They combine to produce the safest and most successful outcome for you. By choosing your provider carefully, you’re most likely to enjoy an optimal outcome.
Medical Uses for Neuromodulators
Cosmetic uses for neuromodulators receive the most attention, but there are established and important medical uses for these products. In fact, the first FDA approvals came in 1989 to treat crossed eyes and excessive blinking. Today’s expanded list of medical uses includes:
- Migraine headaches
- Excessive sweating
- Teeth grinding
- Excessively oily skin
- Large pores
What’s notable is the many successful treatments and millions of patients helped, regardless of their reasons for having injections. Regardless of your reasons for undergoing neuromodulator treatment, there is an excellent chance you’ll be pleased with the results.
How Do They Work?
Neuromodulation compounds work by temporarily paralyzing specific muscles. They are administered carefully and intentionally to certain sites to produce the desired effect. For cosmetic purposes, they stop small movements that cause “dynamic wrinkles.”
The products can also work preventatively, which is important for younger and middle-aged people. When tiny facial muscles are paralyzed, they cannot cause creasing of the skin above. The results vary by person and treatment, but in addition to reversing the signs of aging, they can prevent it.

Before Your Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® (Neuromodulator) Injections
As you prepare to enjoy the benefits of cosmetic neuromodulators like Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®, please read through the following pre-treatment suggestions. They will help ensure you’re prepared to minimize potential side effects and benefit most from your treatment.
Before Treatment
You should be in good overall health and not phobic about needle treatment
One Day Before Treatment
Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages because they can thin the blood and increase bruising.
For Two Weeks Before Treatment
Avoid blood-thinning and anti-inflammatory medicines and supplements, including, but not limited to, NSAIDS such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Mortin), naproxen sodium (Aleve), Vioxx, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, St. John’s wort, etc.
If you will be attending an event and want to look your best, schedule your appointment at least two weeks in advance; it customarily takes two to 10 days to see maximum results, and you want any light bruising to be fully healed
After Your Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® (Neuromodulator) Treatment
Millions of people worldwide have enjoyed the benefits of cosmetic neuromodulators like Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®. They produce excellent results with few side effects, but you should follow the recommendations below to prevent the possible side effects of ptosis (droopy eyelids).
One Hour After Your Injections
Perform facial exercises in the treated areas.
For Three to Four Hours Following Treatment
Avoid straining, heavy lifting, and vigorous exercise – these produce increased circulation (blood flow) that can reduce the potency of the injected neuromodulator; the product takes about two hours to bind to the nerve, and increasing circulation can reduce results.
Don’t manipulate (touch) the area; also, avoid having a facial peel or microdermabrasion; if you plan to have a combination treatment, have the neuromodulator injections last
For Two to 10 Days After Treatment
You should notice increasing results – it customarily takes two to 10 days for the full effects to be visible; if you do not see the desired results, contact the office to discuss additional injections.
You may gently apply make-up before leaving the office.
